In honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday tomorrow, the following is a partial list of true peacemakers from around the world who have sadly lost their lives to guns. A much longer list could be assembled through this wikipedia link.
In a case of inappropriate product naming, between 1873 and 1892, Colt called its revolver the peacemaker. As gun advocates like to claim, “guns do not kill people, people kill people.” If that is the case, then people bring peace, not guns. The gun advocates cannot have it both ways.
Those true peacemakers shown in italics were also Nobel Peace Prize winners.
Abraham Lincoln – USA (1809-1865)
Mohandas (Mahatma) Ghandi – India (1869-1948)
Medger Evers – USA (1925-1963)
John F. Kennedy – USA (1917-1963)
Martin Luther King, Jr. – USA (1929-1968)
Robert F. Kennedy – USA (1925-1968)
Harvey Milk – USA (1930-1978)
John Lennon – USA (1940-1980)
Anwar Sadat – Egypt (1918-1981)
Benigno Aquino, Jr. – Philippines (1932-1983)
Yitzak Rabin – Israel (1922-1995)

If there are other true peacemakers whom you think should have been included, please feel free to reply to the post with additions. Tomorrow, please take a few moments to reflect on those who gave their lives in the quest for peace, love, and understanding.
