Congratulations to Matt Wisniewski of the University of Wisconsin for this inspired video he created in tribute to those fighting to keep their collective bargaining rights in Wisconsin. Terrific song choice too – Arcade Fire’s “Rebellion.”

Here’s a link to an excellent op-ed by Robert Pollin and Jeffrey Thompson on The Nation’s website about the betrayal of America’s public sector employees being attempted by radical conservatives. Those same conservatives better be careful, for they may hurt a lot more people by their cruel and heartless actions, as described below.
“Nonetheless, a rising chorus of commentators charge that public sector workers are overpaid relative to employees in comparable positions in the private sector. The fact that this claim is demonstrably false appears not to matter (emphasis added). Instead, the attacks are escalating. The most recent proposal gaining traction is to write new laws that would allow states to declare bankruptcy. This would let them rip up contracts with current public sector employees and walk away from their pension fund obligations.”
At the conclusion of the story is this not so subtle warning of what may lie ahead.
“If states declare bankruptcy they will break their obligations to employees, vendors, pensioners and even bondholders, which will undermine the basic foundations of our economy. As we emerge, if only tentatively, from the wreckage of the Great Recession, this is precisely the moment we need to strengthen, not weaken, the standards of fairness governing our society.”
