As you may have read earlier today here on Progressive Blogic, Molly has started her own blog, entitled Feminist Forte. I wish her all the success in the world.  For me…Progressive Blogic will never be quite the same without the unified spirit that went into creating and running it. The blog thrived on teamwork and shared responsibilities. I have not made a final decision on what to do yet, though I may consider a new venue for my postings. Any good skywriters out there?  In the interim, please bear with me as I ponder the next steps. Thanks!

For all those who love biking and walking options, here’s an important alert from the Alliance for Biking and Walking. Please contact your governor by July 8th!

“Your state Department of Transportation may be preparing to cut millions in bicycle and pedestrian funding.

Last week, the Federal Highway Administration informed state Departments of Transportation of another rescission of funds, this time totaling $2.5 billion. The FHWA notice includes the total amount of funds each state is to send back to Washington.

States are given maximum flexibility about the source of the funds that are rescinded – from the following programs: Interstate Maintenance, National Highway System, Highway Bridge, Transportation Enhancements, Surface Transportation Program, Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement, Recreational Trails, Metropolitan Planning, State Planning and Research, and Equity Bonus. (Safe Routes to School and Highway Safety Improvement Program funds are NOT included.)

States have to respond by July 8. By now you all know the drill. Transportation Enhancement and Congestion Mitigation Air Quality funds have consistently been inequitably targeted for rescissions in most states – and this will likely continue unless State DOT’s hear from you. In August of 2010, almost $1 billion of CMAQ, TE and Recreational Trails funds were returned to Washington, out of a $2.2 billion rescission.

We can’t afford to let this happen again. Please contact your governor and ask that the rescission be proportional.“ (emphasis added)

All good things must come to an end, and that applies to blog partnerships as well. It has been amazing being a part of Progressive Blogic for the last eight months. I’ve appreciated all of our readers’ support and feedback; I have certainly learned a lot from you. It’s been great having an outlet for my ramblings. However, it’s time for me to set off on my own. I’ve established Feminist Forte as my blog where you will find political and social commentary, and you’ll be able to find all of my past posts, as well as new content, over there. I don’t foresee updating more than a couple of times a week for the next few months, as I’m busy with OFA work, but that could change. I hope some of you will continue to follow both Rick and me in our separate ventures. Thanks for everything.
