Congratulations to the Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council and other community sponsors of the Capital City Dragon Boat Race for a very successful inaugural event this weekend in Greater Lansing. I had a great time volunteering and next year plan to be participating as a member of one of the dragon boat racing teams.

Eleven teams with hilarious names like Oar Wars and Dragon Asses participated and from all appearances (including the photo below) were very evenly matched.
The event began on Saturday morning with team practices throughout the day, followed by a terrific opening ceremony that evening – “the emerging of the dragons” at dusk.
Sunday included round-robin races involving all the teams. Great fun was had by volunteers, participants, and the hearty crowd who came to watch. Once again, congratulations to all the organizers for such a successful event.
