A lot of progressives and liberals bitterly complain about the opinions stated and news coverage provided on the Fox News Channel. However, many of these same people routinely watch American Idol, Family Guy, House, Glee, Fox NFL football, or the Simpsons on Fox’s entertainment network, or other programming on specialized Fox channels.

Since it is the advertising dollars from its entertainment and sports programming channels that help underwrite the news organization, watching these shows is essentially tacit support for Fox News. One could even say that those performers, writers, producers, etc. that have their shows broadcast on Fox are providing support to an organization that many abhor.

For the average person, one of the small things you can do to quietly voice your opposition is to not watch programming on any of the following channels that are part of News Corporation:

  • Fox
  • F/X
  • Fox College Sports
  • Fox News Channel
  • Fox Sports Network
  • Fox Soccer Channel
  • Fox Deportes
  • Fox Movie Channel
  • Fox Reality Channel
  • Big Ten Network
  • Fuel TV
  • National Geographic Channel
  • National Geo WILD
  • Speed

Personally, I thought I had refrained this entire fall television season from watching any Fox programming except for House. That was until I found out that the Big Ten Network was also owned by them, which I did not know until I was doing research for this posting. Ugh! I had made an exception for House, albeit a weak one, because House is produced by NBC Universal.

Boycotting all the Fox television channels is the primary option that the average liberal and progressive has to make a difference in the news organization’s agenda. By hitting them where it hurts, also known as the proverbial bottom line is the fastest way to get the shareholders’ and Rupert’s attention. Otherwise, complaining about their news, while watching their entertainment programming is a double standard.

So…if you are really troubled by the Fox News Channel, it’s time to suck it up and take one for the team (even if your alma mater is in the Big Ten). There are many other television shows, cable channels, books, videos, games, live plays, and other entertainment and sport options available. It is time to enjoy them – and you’ll feel better about your choice too.
